The R-FH Area Weekend: RFHer Cooper Ley’s Memorial Art Show

It’s all about the skating, creating and celebrating in the spirit of one artist. That artist would have been 32 on March 10.

So, in keeping with a new tradition created by his sister Adrienne, RFH grad Tom “Cooper” Ley’s artwork and birthday will be celebrated from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 15 at Wild Air Beerworks, Asbury Park.

The show will honor the RFH grad, artist, musician and skateboarder with a posthumous birthday bash and help others in the mix. The proceeds from sales of Cooper’s artwork prints will benefit a charity — I Heart SF Skate Club. The cause, his sister said, is one that she researched and feels aligns with what Cooper’s wish to help would be if he were here.

Cooper passed away suddenly last year on Jan. 10, a couple months before his 31st birthday. Adrienne hosted the first of pop-up art shows in his honor in March of last year. A second was held in December at another spot.

In addition to the sales of Cooper’s art, his brother, Ben, will entertain with a little music from 2 to 2:45 or so.

For the love of art, music, skating and a good cause, the family and friends of Cooper invite all to be there — and leave having helped with some Cooper Ley artwork to display.

RFH girls of the 1970s out on a free period

Well, the sun came out and dried up all the wintry yuck.

And when the sun comes out, it’s always been a rite of passage for RFHers to get outside. No, we’re not talking about cutting class. We’re just saying that when the sun calls after a stretch of yuck, RFH students have always answered with at least a trip to the front, side, or back of the high school — or Piping Rock Park … or the old Campus Luncheonette.
