Longtime Little Silver resident, Sandra “Sandy” Sue Wells passed away on March 9. She was 77.

She took great pride in being a longtime Little Silver resident and continued to support the community throughout her life.

“In 1955, Sandy’s family permanently moved to Little Silver, where her father opened The Sugar Bar luncheonette. There, Sandy and her sister helped and supported the family business. Sandy graduated from Markham Place School and Red Bank High School Class of 1965, before earning a teaching degree at Glassboro State College, now Rowan University, in 1969.

“In 1969, she married Keith Wells, and they later returned to Little Silver in 1977. They raised their family there and remained to this day. Sandy dedicated her life to her family and her community. She started volunteering for the Little Silver Library in 1981, where she eventually became an employee until her retirement in 2022. Sandy also spent more than 10 years writing a weekly column, Our Town, about Little Silver happenings for the Two River Times. In addition, she was a founding member and archivist of the Springsteen Special Collection, now held at Monmouth University.
“She spent her free time at Chapel Beach Club in the summers for over four decades, adored her annual vacations on Cape Cod, was an avid reader, and later in life, enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren.”
Sandy was born to John Ferrogiari and Gayle (Matheny) Ferrogiari in Sault Sainte Marie, MI. They soon relocated to Asbury Park, where she and her sister, Pat, attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel School.
Sandy is survived by her husband of 55 years, Keith, sons Gregory and his fiancé Jill Careri of Highlands, NJ, and Jeffrey and his wife Lori of Larchmont, NY, grandchildren Charlotte and Anderson Wells, and her sister Pat Coyne and her husband Mark.
The family will host an open house Celebration of Life from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on March 30 at the Woman’s Club of Little Silver, 111 Church St, Little Silver, NJ 07739. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made in her name to the Friends of the Little Silver Library.
