The sun may have taken a respite from spring on Sunday, but that and a little drizzle of rain didn’t stop Rumson kids from a little tradition — the annual egg hunt at Victory Park.
“He lived his entire adulthood in three different homes in Fair Haven, NJ, a town he adored and planned never leave.”
That’s what longtime Fair Havenite Craig C. Sergeant’s obituary said about the local man who passed away unexpectedly on March 22 at the age of 71 in New Brunswick.
His life will be celebrated from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury.
Born in 1946 to Raymond and Dorothy Clarke Sergeant in Red Bank, Craig grew up there and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1964 and Albright College in Pennsylvania in 1968. After college, he settled down in Fair Haven and never planned on leaving.

What’s a mother to do when the light of her life is extinguished? Dawn Tilton Massabni has been looking for an answer to that question for about a year now — since the day her dauntless, bright spirited 19-year-old daughter Maddy died unexpectedly from toxic shock syndrome on March 30, 2017 at 4:55 p.m.
That answer, or any other, has hardly come easily for the longtime Rumson mom and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) graduate who grew up in the area and raised her family there. But now she thinks she’s found a way to keep the light that she and so many knew as Maddy shining bright.
Well, spring has arrived and so has another so-called nor’easter. At the very least, it’s not bird-chirping, flower-blooming spring weather in the Rumson-Fair Haven area.
