Retro Waiting for Santa Time in Fair Haven

Santa Claus is coming to downtown Fair Haven Friday night, and he’s gonna help light things up for the holiday season.

As it usually stands to reason for the season, families valiantly try to coordinate those classic photos for the ol’ memory album.

Though, it’s always fun to catch them trying to set up the pose with the typical snafus — cranky kids, losing a little balance and all saying “Cheese … and don’t drop the child!” for that camera at the same time, toothy grins intact.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day honors that time-honored moment of the pose set-up with a Fair Haven family at last year’s tree lighting.

Well, they still look pretty good … Cheese and Santa!

With the end of Thanksgiving gatherings comes the start of not only the holiday shopping season, but festivities galore.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day offers one cute glimpse back to 2015 and some young ones playing reindeer games of their own sort at the Fair Haven tree lighting, which is coming up on Friday.

This little gaggle of giddy girls, and a guy, was quite wide-eyed and waiting to take in some seasonal magic.

The truth is that the magic was all in their eyes.

Recognize these little reindeer?

Scene Around: RFH Tower Singers’ Holiday High Note

The holidays. They’re something to sing about. And that’s exactly what the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Tower Singers did over the weekend.

All festively dressed up with somewhere to go, the singers took their songs to the streets and other places in the area to serenade many and spread some holiday cheer. They do it every year.

This year, the Santa-hatted Tower Singers strolled and sang starting in the morning at St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson at the church’s Canterbury Christmas event. By about 11 a.m., they singers were on their way to Ce La Vi on Monmouth Street in Red Bank. No, they didn’t stroll all the way there, but … they did have some brunch — and a little bonding.

After brunch the Tower Singers did a caroling kind of stroll from the restaurant to Riverside Gardens Park on Front Street where they sang for the Red Bank Holiday Harmonies program at 1 p.m. And finally, the singers strolled to Broad Street to sing in front of the Red Bank Artists’ Collective, also for the Red Bank program.

Now that’s some holiday cheer with a song — or several! Cheers to the Tower Singers!

A classic reprise to take the fall chill out

Helloooooo hurtful sting of the late fall chill. There’s nothing better to warm an RFH soul than a funny staged moment of some hot girls on the beach — RFH stage.

Scene Around: Shining Fair Haven Baseball Diamonds

Proclamations from the governing body in hand, Fair Haven championship baseball boys posed for a picture of their shining-like-a- true-diamond moment at Monday’s Borough Council meeting.

Two teams won the championships. “Our 8U and 11U Diamond teams brought home the hardware!” Mayor Josh Halpern said in a social media post. “Proud of these fantastic and talented groups of players and coaches. I am confident this won’t be the last time we are celebrating their success. Thanks for making us all proud!”

Congrats to the Diamonds!

Our annual Thanksgiving tribute to the kids’ table … Remember that? Happy Thanksgiving, all! Stay safe. Stay healthy. Enjoy!

It’s Thanksgiving, and, yes, it’s all about giving thanks.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day is an ode to just that.

It’s a snapshot back in time to the 1960s with a sibling duo from Fair Haven — Ben and Kate Hamilton. Ben passed away and Kate had posted this picture on Facebook giving thanks for him. RIP, Ben.

The photo brings back memories of the era the kids’ holiday table. Remember that one?

Retro RFH Thanksgiving Homecoming Touchdown

RFH Thanksgiving Day football game

If some old RFHers had a pre-Thanksgiving turkey wishbone to yank on, they may be hoping to pull the bigger end to make a wish to revisit their own RFH Thanksgiving Day Homecoming game. Any other may just do, too.

Back in the day, the RFH football season used to peak with what then was the classic rivalry homecoming/Thanksgiving Day game between Red Bank Catholic and RFH.

Focus: RFH Tower Players’ ‘Robin Hood’ Curtain

Bow, curtain, mingle and pose. The show time tradition continues for Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Tower Players. After the final show, there’s always a time for lobby cheers, tears and smiles.

That’s what happened with this past weekend’s fall production of The Somewhat True Tale of Robin Hood. The players played to full houses and took their final bow at the Sunday matinee.

The after-show lobby time? Well, not only did they pose, but, as usual the cast was flanked by flowers, family and friends and, yes, even some Tower Player alumni.

The smiles are telling. All was a success. Take a look (Click on one photo to enlarge and scroll!)

And, RFH PAS reminds all that the spring musical is Anything Goes!

For this one, there was an “interest” meeting on Monday. There will also be mandatory tap workshops from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 21 and 29 and Dec. 5. Auditions are set for Dec. 11 at 4 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 6 p.m..

In line with the Anything Goes theme song, “times have changed.” Interest in the spring musical was always enthusiastic and highly competitive. Get those tap shoes tapping, players!

Yes, it’s the season at RFH when it’s pretty much all about football.

But, what about those days when it was about powder puff football, too? There were those days — at least in the late 1970s. And they’re back again with the recent resurgence of the girls’ game. This year, the juniors lost to the seniors.
