Graduation time is near. It’s a time when Fair Haven eighth graders walk that graduation walk and that symbolic trek down Third Street. It’s their last — an ode to elementary school.

They had a field day.
Rumson Forrestdale School students gathered outside yesterday for a traditional annual end-of-the-school-year day of fun and games outdoors. It’s literally a field day. And it’s sponsored by the PTO.

When summer hits in the Rumson-Fair Haven area, teens tend to flock to the Sea Bright beach clubs … the river … the public beach (yes) … Donovan’s … or they hit the road and set out for a great adventure, albeit a sweaty one on some long lines to a big ride, a log flume, a dip in a crowded wading pool or something else that veers away, like a preppy style train wreck, from the R-FH area summer norm.

What a ride!
Indeed. It’s been quite a ride in many ways for the Fair Haven Fire Department, which just celebrated its 120th anniversary on June 1. Still in service to the community. Always celebrating another year of service and camaraderie. And when you pair some classic Fair Haven Fire Department old timers — actually one then new-timer, now a real old timer — with an old classic of a car on a fun day back in the 1960s, you get a classic snapshot begging for a caption.

Well, the weather has been mighty fine for the official start of summer and Sea Bright beaches are swarming with RFHers.

Oh, it’s unofficial summertime. And Rumson-Fair Haven area folks have been soaking up the positive beaching it vibes and renewal of close encounters with their days at the beach and clubbing it, as they do.
Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge & Roadway Travel Alert
Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge construction work remains status quo, with the exception of major roadwork on the Rumson side continuing this week. All construction continues on the usual 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. schedule though Friday, weather permitting.
New Rumson Side Traffic Pattern …
• Access to Old Rumson Road from Rumson Road (CR 520) is temporarily closed to allow for installation of a new traffic pattern. Please use South Ward Avenue for access to Waterman Avenue or St. George’s by the River church.
Additional Roadway and Sidewalk Information
- A new crosswalk across Rumson Road will be installed soon.
- The south side (eastbound) sidewalk of the bridge is closed.
- All roadway and sidewalk travelers should be aware of construction and delivery vehicles entering and exiting the work areas on both sides of Rumson Road in Rumson and on the southbound side of Ocean Avenue in Sea Bright.
- Temporary delays are possible on any contractor workday due to movement of construction vehicles and equipment.

Retro Rumson Cheers from Frank’s
Cheers to Friday, a Rumson icon and his iconic River Road spot!
That would be Tony Mellaci and his father’s bar, Frank’s. The door was always open at the place, welcoming Rumson friends for a cold one, a Mellaci sausage sandwich, a little camaraderie and good conversation among locals. The senior Mellaci, Frank, owned it and ran it with his son, Tony. The proprietors, they were.
Focus: An RFH PAS Final Bow
It was no performance.
When Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Performing Arts (PAS) seniors got together for a banquet recently, it was more like a very real final bow to one another for a bittersweet goodbye flush with impromptu performance and love of the arts and one another.
