They walked the walks — two, that is. Yes, Fair Haven’s Knollwood School eighth grade graduation happened last night.
The Knollwood Class of 2026, soon to be RFH Class of 2030, took two walks into and out of the school — figuratively speaking, at least. One was, of course, that Pomp and Circumstance filing into the graduation ceremony. And the other, of course, was the traditional one from Knollwood to Sickles School, where the schooling all began for those 100 students in Fair Haven.
They were escorted by police and Fair Haven Fire Department fire trucks and emergency vehicles on that last trek down that steep Third Street hill to the final destination at Sickles to celebrate their elementary school beginnings and middle school end. You could say it was something to cheer and dance about.
The streets were lined with family and friend cheerleaders bearing signs, decorations and chalked walkways.
Girls were decked out in white with blue corsages and boys donned khakis and blue blazers with white boutonnières. Classic, like their hometown ways have always been.
OK, so there were no Gunne Sax dresses. So, everything old is not yet new again. But, the fashion plate status of Fair Haven grads has always been forward — pastels and Gunne Sax or not. The classes have shrunk quite a bit, too. Hmmmm ….
Congrats, grads! Keep walking those Fair Haven walks!
