Reprise in honor of Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair week and Firemen’s Night …

Well, the fair is on and nothing has stopped it yet. But it remains to be seen if tonight’s tornado warnings for Monmouth County will blow what is usually Firemen’s Night/Family Night out of the fair grounds.

A tradition within the fair tradition is Firemen’s Night. Fire departments from across the state flock to the fair, most with reps riding into town on their towns’ fire trucks.

So, the Retro Pic of the Day offers a glimpse into Firemen’s Night 2015 with a photo of guys and gals from the neighboring Rumson Fire Department.

A big thank you to all our volunteer firefighters.

Rumson Rec to Host Family Fun Nights

Rumson Recreation has announced that new Family Fun Nights are to be hosted at Victory Park.

The nights, on Sept. 2 and 9 from 6 to roughly 7:30 p.m. will feature concerts by The Band of the Two Rivers and DJ MO Talent, respectively.

Rumson Rec asks that attendees bring their own chairs, blankets and snacks for the festivities. With Band of the Two Rivers there will be music, socializing and the river view.

With DJ MO, there will be some “family fun music” and contests.

Call it the real macaw — up close and personal.

“Well, that made my night!” a woman could be overheard exclaiming after a chance meeting with a special parrot that broke the table wait tedium at a packed Barnacle Bill’s in Rumson on Saturday night.

Back in the day, Rumson summers weren’t all about going to the beach club from dawn ’til dusk.

For some, it was as simple skipping the packing up of the family, not to mention the cost, and just laying a blanket out on the lawn and catching some rays while the kids played.
