A reprise in honor of the Sea Bright icon known as Dizzy Dave on his 70th birthday … There’s a birthday fundraiser going on for Dizzy Dave with a goal set for $4,000 to help him out. So far, $1,175 has been raised. Click here to contribute to making Dave’s 70th monumental. “Dave turns 70 on July 5th and it would be really nice for him to feel the love of all the people who know him in our wonderful town that takes care of its own,” said David Van Vliet, the organizer.
Nothing says local and summer quite like a glimpse into the past of a Sea Bright icon in his local beach element, albeit a likely polar bear plunge scenario here.
Whoopie! That’s just what the former owner of the iconic Sail Inn and Melody Corner (same place) in Sea Bright would say to this belly-up scene at his bar from the 1970s.
The pandemic put Clean Ocean Action’s Beach Sweeps on stall. It also gave the Sweeps another category of trash to haul — PPE.
So, the Sweeps are blooming again, COVID-19 style, on Saturday morning — a breath of fresh spring air making way for a clean sweep into the summer season on the Jersey shore. The Sweeps have been popular since their inception, longtime Rumsonite and RFH grad Cindy Zipf at the helm of Clean Ocean Action.
To quote the sad hope sentiment in that red-headed orphan Annie song, “The sun’ll come out tomorrow.”
According to the National Weather Service forecast, it will. It will also peer through the clouds a bit on Wednesday. The rest of the week is a dank April showers washout.
So, here’s a little clear day’s view on the Navesink at the iconic Barnacle Bill’s and looking toward Highlands from the Shrewsbury at Sea Bright. The glimpse is a reminder of soothing sunny days and a better outlook for spring and summer.
Here’s that forecast for the Rumson-Fair Haven area … (And click on one of the photos above to enlarge and scroll. Enjoy the view and sunny springtime outlook!)

Well, the sun made a promising appearance today, bringing with it warm thoughts of togetherness and teaming up for sun-kissed, carefree canoodling and a good swim.
A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged with luring two 13-year-old girls into his vehicle in Sea Bright with the intent of sexually assaulting them, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.
With the chill in the air particularly stinging these days of moving toward winter and more isolation, we need a reminder that sunny days, warm beach weather and shoulder-to-shoulder togetherness and bonding is somewhere on the horizon. So, that in mind, sometimes we just need a classic reprise, just because … These RFH guys were and are so very cool and the memories are warm … Catch a wave and sit on top of this RFH world!
A reprise from 2017. Taking you back again after eight years … Remember?
It was the year that Halloween wasn’t, but was in a sense. People in the area woke up to a nightmare, if they slept at all the night before. It was 2012 and Superstorm Sandy had pummeled the Jersey Shore. It decimated Sea Bright and destroyed low lying parts of Rumson. Fair Haven was a bit war torn and powerless.
