Our Retro Pic of the Day pays homage to the Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade in its inaugural year.
The parade is now in its third year; and fundraising efforts begin on Sunday.
Back in its first year in 2012, the parade drew thousands. It is expected to bring more this year.
The Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set for March 8.

Looking back, the cold didn’t seem to stave off the die-hard Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School ocean dwellers.
We’ve seen them in full Polar Bear Club regalia. Now, in our Retro Pic of the (George) Day, here they are again at shoreline of Sea Bright Beach ready for some surfing fun circa 1978.
Donning down and ski jackets, this crew was always ready to catch a wave — of fun in one way or another.

Yes, thinking warmer thoughts is a salient motif of the Retro Pic of the Day lately.
So, in keeping with the warm wishes of many, we decided to, again, remind everyone in the Rumson-Fair Haven area that there’s no time like the present to think some crabby thoughts about the coming spring — in particular, visions of crabbing at the Fair Haven Dock.
This was the scene last year during a more balmy season at sunset.
Count the days until it’s time hang your own “Gone fishin’ at Fair Haven Dock” sign on the office!

Our Retro Pic of the Day gives a glimpse, from the pages of the 1974 Forrestdale yearbook, into the baby faces of some of the eighth grade graduates back then.
The page is entitled Mouseketeers. Hmmmm.

With all the post-Superbowl talk about the grandiose pop star-studded halftime, we figured our Retro Pic of the Day should be an ode to simpler, well, high school halftimes.
So, that in mind, our featured photo is of the 1976 RFH Marching Band.
No, there were no myriad costume changes, acrobatics, flying people or gigantic glass tigers (that was a tiger, right?) toting pop star Katy Perry, but these guys had a following of their own and their time to shine on the field.
We won’t editorialize on the Katy Perry popularity contest.

Our Retro Pic of the Day takes us back to a former mayor and Fair Haven Day fundraiser — Michael Halfacre at Oktoberfest 2014.
Oktoberfest is a relatively new annual event in the borough. It took hold in 2012 when officials decided that people enjoyed the centennial Fair Haven Day celebration so much that they’d have one every year in June.
The Foundation of Fair Haven, a (501c3) non-profit organization, was created to raise funds to offset the cost of the day, pay for fireworks, music and keep the food and drink prices low.
Since Oktoberfest has been such a hit, The Foundation of Fair Haven has decided to organize a luau dubbed Tiki Haven that’s slated for Feb. 28.
It’s a beautiful day in a Fair Haven neighborhood when a few snow angels shovel out an asthmatic editor on a mission to get some photos.
That’s exactly what happened on a certain block in Fair Haven when yours truly was unknowingly dug out from whatever white stuff fell as a result of the “winter storm.”
No, there was no blizzard. But there was certainly enough snow to bring on an attack while shoveling or at least delay work.

In light of the impending nor’easter, our Retro Pic of the Day, once again, brings back memories of fun in the sun on the banks of the Navesink River.
This crew had a great time one day in 2013. The photo encapsulates a typical day for kids enjoying life down by the river.

We asked if we could take a picture of her. Her parents said it was not only fine, but that she would love it!
The toddler immediately started posing. Adorable, right? Do you know her?
Our Retro Pic of the Day is in honor of George Day, 1978 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) photography editor.
George did some excellent work, not only at RFH, but all over the area in the 1970s, and before and after that.
He got in touch with Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect; and, we are thrilled to say, he will be collaborating with us on some fabulous Retro Pic of the Day posts. We just may call them Retro Pic of the George Day posts.

Our Retro Pic of the Day is a warm look back on one of those seemingly perfect days down by the Navesink River.
It was just one of those days — a day that the picture there was worth about 5,000 words on why the Rumson-Fair Haven area is such a great place to live.
The sun was shining, the scene was serene and, a couple of best buds waded in the water, made friends with hermit crabs and shared the wealth of their elating experience.
There’s nothing quite like the happy faces of kids enjoying life down by the river.
Our Retro Pic of the Day takes us back a couple of years to post-Hurricane Sandy days when Republican Gov. Chris Christie was endorsed by Democratic Sea Bright Mayor Dina Long and it was news.
A press conference was held at Woody’s in Sea Bright. Once it was over, the governor posed for photos with many people, including these two Rumson ladies.
We won’t tell you who they are. Do you know?
