The RFH Band has played on … and on … and on for decades. And with the RFH Marching Band’s latest triumph as a Tournament of Bands champ, it was only fitting that a retro tribute to the band be played.

The Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade is set to step off on Sunday, barring rain. And we’re thinking that there’s nothing quite like celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, Irish or not, with a couple of bulldogs leading your alma mater’s marching band. That’s how RFH did it back in 1993.
All RFH concerts have singers and players — of the Tower variety.
Last night’s annual RFH Winter Concert was no exception. The singers sang holiday songs and the players of various RFH instrumental ensembles played. At times, in RFH history, the two did meet to make music together.
The Rumson-Fair Haven community and beyond is in mourning over the death to COVID-19 of Terence “Shannon” Gilvary, a musician and former longtime Fair Havenite and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 1986 graduate. He was 52.
The pandemic didn’t stop the show. The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Marching Band and Color Guard marched, twirled and played on at Friday night’s first RFH Football game. And the show was winning, by all accounts, just like the team.
Cheers! A reprise from 2016 in honor of a different kind of season during which, according to RFH posts, the band plays on …
It’s that time of the year. It’s football season — a pandemic season, at that. And that means it’s also time for the RFH Marching Band to play the field, too. They’ve been talking about practice on Twitter and they’re taking their marching orders well.

With all the post-Superbowl talk about the grandiose pop star-studded halftime, we figured our Retro Pic of the Day should be an ode to simpler, well, high school halftimes.
So, that in mind, our featured photo is of the 1976 RFH Marching Band.
No, there were no myriad costume changes, acrobatics, flying people or gigantic glass tigers (that was a tiger, right?) toting pop star Katy Perry, but these guys had a following of their own and their time to shine on the field.
We won’t editorialize on the Katy Perry popularity contest.
