The marquee on the Fair Haven firehouse is once again a sign of sad news. Another Fair Haven community pillar has passed — former Police Chief and 65-year fire company member, George Chandler.
His death comes just about a year after that of his brother Chum.

Rumson School District tradition took hold again as the Forrestdale School Winter Band Concert was presented recently.
The first snowfall of the Rumson-Fair Haven area was actually a blizzard. The Blizzard of 2016, to be exact.
At least that’s what the weather authorities tell us. With accumulations ending up blustering and drifting into a couple of feet at least, the blizzard was, all told, weathered well in the area.
After a sunny Sunday that ushered in a bit of melting, the National Weather Service is calling for more sun with temperatures hitting a high of 36 degrees and a northwest wind of about 7 miles per hour.
The weather folks are cautioning that melting snow will lead to the usual flooding in low-lying areas of Rumson and Sea Bright and when temperatures fall at night, there will be ice.

With the line officers in the Fair Haven First Aid Squad all women for 2016, we are reminded that it was not all that long ago that it was just men in the squad — really, until the 1980s.
Yet, there is another attribute of first aiders, among other emergency responders, that is worthy of mention. Many times, the calling to help the community is a family affair.

Criminal Incidents
• A report of terroristic threats was made by a male in the area of Garden Road on Jan. 4.
Patrolman Tyler Fox is investigating.
• A report of criminal mischief was made by a female in the area of Birch Drive on Jan. 6.
Patrolman Ralph Latham is investigating.
• There was a report of a shoplifting in the area f Shrewsbury Plaza made by a male on Jan. 8.
Patrolman Matthew Clark is investigating.
• There was a report of a shoplifting in the area of Shrewsbury Plaza made by a male on Jan. 8.
Patrolman Derek Myers is investigating.
Arrests
• Sydieria Jones, 25, of Eatontown, was arrested on Jan. 8 and charged with theft in the area of Shrewsbury Plaza by Patrolman Matthew Clark.
• Nicholas Asaro, 27, of Keyport, was arrested on Jan. 9 in the area of Broad Street and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) by Patrolman Angel Marrero.
In looking back recently at the Fair Haven Fire Department’s honoring of the iconic Dr. John Movelle at its annual Installation Dinner in 2001, many remembered how the good hometown doctor made house calls without a flinch.
Well, in those emergency situations when a visit to the hospital is imminent and life-and-death situations are looming, the Fair Haven First Aid Squad has been there and still is. The squad has been in existence since March 25, 1930, in fact, according to Fair Haven Fire Department history.
What many may not know, though, is that while all the First Aid Squad line officers are now women — Kim Ambrose (captain), Amanda Lynn (first lieutenant) and Katy Frissora (second lieutenant) — there was a time when there were no women on the squad.
The following recent arrests on contempt warrants and other charges were made and reported by Middletown police. An arrest does not constitute a conviction.
