Focus: Snow Dust on the Dock

Rumson-Fair Haven area folks started their day with a dusting of snow.

The National Weather Service’s forecast for the area calls for some more snow and possibly sleet before 3 p.m. There’s a chance of rain later with temperatures hovering around 40 degrees.

Tomorrow’s forecast: Mostly cloudy with a high temperature of about 45 degrees.

In the meantime, the snow was untouched on the Fair Haven Dock, offering a snow dusted picturesque view.

Focus: Nightfall River Reflections

You could call it falling for the Navesink River.

Wednesday night was one of those still, quiet fall nights down by the river at the Fair Haven Dock. It was in the air. It was on the water. Reflection. A lot of reflection. It’s easy to see and instinctively know why when it is also a place called home.

Take a moment to reflect … Good night, home.

Simple Summer: Crabbing & Catching a Sunset

It doesn’t get much more simple in the summer than hanging a cage filled with raw chicken bait over the side of the Fair Haven Dock, netting crabs and catching a prime sunset view in the mix.

That’s what this Simple Summer photo gallery is all about.

Sometimes, too, you run into a small business owner everyone in the area knows. Anyone know who this is pictured crabbing a few days ago?

Hint: He’s known for putting people in stitches.

Scene Around: Gull on the River Beach

Ever take a walk down by the river and feel like someone’s following you or even leading the way?

It happened today down on the beach by the Fair Haven Dock.

A lone seagull, seemingly having a little trouble with one of his legs, led the way taking a leisurely walk along the riverbank, picked on some food along the way, waded and tried to fly a little, but to no avail. He was getting around and eating and not fearful of humans.

So, he had a little company for his afternoon walk.

Good night and feel better, Mr. Fair Haven Livingston Seagull.

Focus: Waiting for the Sun Under the Dock

The weather has been overcast, rainy, drizzly and downright gloomy.

Waiting for the sun to return to spring has become a ritual. It’s the kind of day for rewinding to when the sun was out and casting shadows in a view from under the Fair Haven Dock.

Take a look at our wishful gallery of shadows and reflections on a sunnier day right before the rain from under the dock.

Focus: Fair Haven Dock Spring Sunset

“Isn’t it beautiful?” said a woman smiling and taking in the sunset at the Fair Haven Dock Wednesday night. “It’s just breathtaking and it’s right here in our back yards. Well, almost. Just beautiful.”

Yes. We agreed. And, no, it just doesn’t get old — the serenity, the scenery, the gratitude for it all.

So, again, and likely many more times, we offer the view from the dock over the Navesink River at sunset in Fair Haven — a little peninsula haven that is a sweet home to many.

Good night, home.

Focus: Sunny Daze in the R-FH Area

Blame it on El Nino.

Everyone in the Rumson-Fair Haven area got a taste of spring and then some with a good sun drenching and record-breaking temperatures hitting the mid- to high-70s.

In Rumson, it was so packed at Victory Park this afternoon that there was no parking within a few blocks’ radius. Things were quiet down at the Fair Haven Dock, with a couple of people and their best four-legged friends taking a stroll and a few teens out taking a run and jibing one another about some spring fever flirtations (just a little quibble over which guy “she” said hi to first).

Oh, and there was a swan taking a quiet swim.

Take a look. Ahhhhh. Serenity and sun now! Enjoy. Good night, R-FH area.
