Former longtime Fair Havenite, police officer, fire company member and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School graduate, Richard Post, died on Monday, June 10, at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC., surrounded by his children and grandchildren he loved and loved to spend time with.
Born on December 20, 1945 in Long Branch, Richard graduated from RFH in 1964 and studied at Trenton State College for two semesters, before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion of basic training, he was assigned to the 6910th Security Wing, stationed in Darmstadt, West Germany, where he met the love of his life, Heidrun Kostial. They were married in Germany in 1968 and moved to Fair Haven upon his honorable discharge in October of 1969. There, they raised their children.
Richard was a Fair Haven Police Department officer from 1972 to 1999. He retired as captain of the department “after a long and rewarding career.” Before his law enforcement career, he worked for Ford Motor Company.
Richard is predeceased by his wife, Heidrun and his brother, John.
He is survived by: his daughters, Sabine Jarvis and her partner Michael Milano and children Rhiannon, spouse Jesse and children Chase and Sawyer, Cheyenne and spouse Shane and child Tai, and Alexis and partner Ian; his sons, Michael Kostial, and Richard and children Taylor, Madison and Connor; his father’s second wife, Margaret Post; his brother, Kevin and spouse Michelle and children Ian and Phillip; his sister, Yvonne and children Jill and Deirdre; and his sister-in-law Joanne and children, John, spouse Sarah and children, Carter, Emily and Tyler; and Hillary and spouse Ed and children Lily and Alex.
Richard will be reunited with his loving wife Heidrun in a private family ceremony in New Jersey at a future date.
