Loved ones of Andy Schlegel in his obituary
“Although he never had children himself, in his younger days, Andy and brother Joe were known to take their sisters’ kids to the beach, the office Christmas party, and many other fun times, making wonderful memories.
“Andy was fun-loving, caring, and a very hard worker. He could always be found enjoying the backyard with a cold Coors Light and a book, sometimes sharing his sandwich with the dog. Always sporting a Hawaiian shirt, he loved a good July 4th BBQ and a water pistol fight! Andy was ready and willing, with toolbox or shovel in hand, to help his family and friends when they needed anything.”
Andy was born in Orange to Andrew Schlegel, Jr. and Doris (Bellew) Schlegel.
Most recently, he retired from his facilities maintenance position at St. Benedict’s Parish and School in Holmdel. Formerly, he was employed for 32 years at Chubb & Son Insurance, Warren.
Andy was predeceased by: his parents; and his sister, Patricia Smith.
He is survived by: his identical twin brother, Joseph, of Red Bank; his sister, Carol Maguire, of Long Branch; his niece, Kathy (Thomas) Jeys, of Long Branch; nephews, Conor Maguire, of Eureka, CA, and Joseph (Stacy) Maguire, of Chesapeake, VA; and great-nieces and nephews, Cameron Jeys, Kaitlyn, Josie, and Colton Maguire, and Hailey and Samantha Varga.
A graveside service is set for Friday, May 2, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery and Mausoleum, Middletown.
