Focus: A 40th RFH Reunion

“Oh, what a night!”

The Four Seasons’ keyboardist Bob Gaudio and future wife Judy Parker may have written the lyrics to the song about the nostalgia of an affair “late December back in ’63,” but the title and chorus are quite fitting for the 40th reunion of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s Class of ’78.

Focus: Fair Haven Night Out Fun

Fair Haven police reported that there were an awful lot of community leaders, emergency responders and resident cohorts having a suspicious amount of fun at Tuesday’s National Night Out.

From all accounts and snapshots, the evidence has been mounted for a solid conviction.

Police also reported a sighting of recently injured Patrolman Dwayne Reevey having fun and looking like he’s on the road to strong recovery.

Take a look …

Focus: Knollwood Graduation Milestone Moments

It’s not just about the walk and the diploma. It’s about the milestone moments — the before, during and after — of eighth grade graduation. It’s the graduation that puts students on a new plane to growing up — getting set to go to high school.

Last week, Fair Haven’s Knollwood School eighth graders shared many of those milestone moments. They met at their alma mater to take a trip to the high school where most of them will be launching their teen education experience. They graduated. They took a walk of tradition down Third Street, cheered on my family and friends, all the way back to where their Fair Haven educational experience started — at Viola L. Sickles School. They celebrated with a dance. They said goodbye to their elementary and middle school years.

A few Fair Haven moms sent their photos to offer a glimpse into the moments. Take a look at our slideshow and photo gallery …

Thanks to Joanne Joanne Mitchell Formisano, Courtney Kemler, Beth Solin, Lauren Steets, Melina Calabretta, Erin Simpson and Lynn for providing the photos!

Focus: Backstage with RFH Class of 2018 Grads

Those moments before the graduation walk are sometimes the most treasured. Classmates huddle together, clown around and, yes, shed a few tears knowing that it is the last time they’ll all be together as high school students.

Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect visited with the Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 2018 before the walk.

Here’s a glimpse of what we saw backstage … (Click to enlarge! Apologies for the blurriness. Time for a new camera … and/or photographer.)

RFH Class of ’78: Revving Up for a 40th Reunion

The year was 1978. Springsteen and Saturday Night Fever were hot. So were alligator shirts, espadrilles, top siders, Sun-In hair and dark baby oil and iodine enhanced tans.

Life was pretty carefree for a class full of 314 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) students who were about to graduate.

Now, 40 years later, still dancing to a high school beat, fearless leaders of the same crew are preparing to host the RFH Class of ’78 40th Reunion.

Recently, the reunion committee gathered at the venue for the Aug. 18 reunion — Sea Bright Beach Club. They’re pretty “psyched,” as many RFHers of the 70s used to say.

And, they’re reminding all that counting today, there are only FIVE days, until June 18, left to get your money in before the price goes up! After June 18, it goes up $10 and $20 if payment is made at the door.

Classmates are reminded to: either make checks ($108 each for drinkers, and $98 for non) out to Leanne Bell and send to Lisa Lindeman Luckett (message her on Facebook for address); or pay via PayPal.

When paying via PayPal, enter [email protected]. Select the Friends and Family option.

With all payments, please Include your email, phone number, high school name and guest’s name.

So, ’78 classmates, do the Hustle, get those payments in and get set to “boogie on down” in your hometown! In the meantime, check out the committee’s photo op (above). Yes, still crazy after all these years …

Scene Around: The Fair Haven Fire Department Memorial Flag Story

You’ve seen them. Those little red and white flags. As Memorial Day approaches, the little memorial flags from fire companies pop up on  lawns or any other fitting places to remember members who served and passed.

Springtime in the Rumson-Fair Haven Area?

After a string of rainy days of spring, otherwise just plain dank weather, the sun made a seasonal appearance on Monday and went back into hiding on Tuesday. And down came the rain — again.
