That ship has not sailed. It has, in fact, gone under and out to sea.
It’s the USS New Jersey submarine. It was commissioned at the Naval Weapons Station Earle (NWS Earle) pier in the Leonardo section of Middletown on Saturday; and Fair Haven First Aid Squad members were on hand to offer EMS support at the ceremony.
Red Bank-raised Frank Mancino died on July 24 after a long illness. He was 88.
Former captain with the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Navy veteran and Red Bank Catholic High School graduate, Thomas Joseph Philburn, known as Tom, TJ, dad, uncle, brother, Captain, and Poppop, passed away on May 9.
Lifetime Fair Havenite and U.S. Navy veteran John Sears Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 4, his family by his side. He was 94.
Former Fair Haven resident, Frank John Wrublewski, more recently of Palm City, FL, passed away after a stroke on Tuesday, Sept. 5, at home with his children. He was 102.
