In Memoriam: Rumson Resident, Jack Morris Jr., 65

Rumson resident John Robert “Jack” Morris Jr. passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Dec. 19. He was 65.

Born in Neptune to John Robert Morris Sr. and Barbara Jean Borden, Jack grew up in Wall Township “where he made lifelong friends,” family said in his obituary.

“He was a supportive father of all his children’s academic and career aspirations.
Once the kids left home for college, he moved to Rumson with his wife to enjoy time on the beach and traveling the world.

He attended Rutgers University where he met his wife Janet and graduated with a doctorate degree in ceramic engineering. Together they raised a loving family in West Windsor, NJ. Jack was an avid coach of his children’s sport teams, with his passion being soccer.”

Jack retired as an engineer with Lucent Technologies in 2006 after 20 years with the company.

He is predeceased by his daughter, Jillian Morris and his father, John Robert Morris, Sr.

Jack is survived by: his devoted wife of 39 years, Janet Swallow Morris, of Rumson; his loving children, John Robert Morris III and wife Olga, of Scituate, MA, Brian Morris and wife Cassidy of Arvada, CO and Michelle Pankey and husband Eric of Westminster, CO, his mother, Barbara Jean Morris of Wall, his sister Jean Cotta and husband Jay, also of Wall and his grandson, Gabriel John Morris.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, Dec. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank. There will be a eulogy service at 7, at which time friends and family will be invited to speak. Interment will be private.
