In Memoriam: Longtime Fair Havenite, Wade A. Davis, 83

Longtime Fair Havenite, Wade A. Davis, passed away on Dec. 29 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 83.

“Wade was born and raised in Highlands and spent the last 58 years in Fair Haven, where he raised his family … He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed boating and fishing with his family for many summers in New Jersey and then spending winters in Jensen Beach, FL where he enjoyed the beach and surf fishing.”

He graduated from Atlantic Highlands High School and was employed by Andersen Equipment Service in Atlantic Highlands for 25 years. Then in 1989, he formed his own company, Davis Equipment Sales, Inc., also in Atlantic Highlands, which was the dealership for the Barber Surf Rake Beach Cleaners for the Jersey Shore beaches. He retired from that business in 2017.

Wade was a former member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 825 and served six years in the U.S. Army Reserves. Wade was the former President of the Navesink River Rod and Gun Club.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Anne Horan Davis and Wade H. Davis; his stepmother, Helen Davis; and his brother, William Fahrer.

Wade is survived by: his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy “Dottie” Davis, of Fair Haven; his two children; Laurie A. Davis (who was born on his birthday), of Hoboken, and his son, Wade L. Davis, of Cliffwood; his four beloved grandchildren, who adored their “Pop-Pop,” Wade J. Davis, Shea E. Davis, Evan P. Davis and John “JP” Davis; his brother, Dean Davis, of Jacksonville, FL, and his sister, Carole Rucki, of Huntsville, AL.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Bayside Manor for caring for Wade over the past few months.

Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the John E. Day Funeral Home in Red Bank. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 10:30 a.m., followed by an interment at Fair View Cemetery.
