That’s what longtime Fair Havenite Craig C. Sergeant’s obituary said about the local man who passed away unexpectedly on March 22 at the age of 71 in New Brunswick.
His life will be celebrated from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, 352 Sycamore Avenue, Shrewsbury.
Born in 1946 to Raymond and Dorothy Clarke Sergeant in Red Bank, Craig grew up there and graduated from Red Bank High School in 1964 and Albright College in Pennsylvania in 1968. After college, he settled down in Fair Haven and never planned on leaving.

She had bright red lips, a pearly white smile, twinkly eyes and always a wink, a wave and some love for a neighbor. She was former Fair Havenite Carly Emmons and she passed away peacefully on Sept. 19 at the age of 84.
Her voice had a distinct ring. It was unabashedly friendly, even a bit exotic. She gushed community love when she said hello in the aisles of the Fair Haven Acme back in the 1970s — always the fashion icon of the supermarket, usually capping a tasteful outfit with some sort of fashionable hat as she waved enthusiastically with a, “Hello, dear!” and a cheek kiss and hug to all she met up with.

Former longtime Rumson resident Marty Stevens Kaufmann passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, at her Sunrise of Lincroft residence. She was 80.
Born and raised in the coal-mining town of Glen Lyon, PA, Marty moved to New York City after graduating from Newport High School. She worked there for a couple of years before marrying and relocating to the River Plaza section of Middletown and then to Rumson, where she continued to raise her family.
In retirement, Marty spent her winters in Stuart, FL and summers in Long Branch.
A member of the Rumson Newcomers’ Club, Marty was also an office manager at Biddle Sawyer Corp., Keyport, for more than 20 years,
In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, long walks, traveling and boating with her beloved late husband, Don. “She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and is already missed dearly,” her family said in her obituary from Thompson Memorial Home.
Marty was predeceased by her husband Daniel “Don” Kaufmann “Don” few months ago with whom she shared “35 happy years.” She was also predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Martha Honabach, and her sister Marie Castelli, of Nanicoke, Pa.
Marty is survived by: her sons, Edward Stevens and his wife Robin, of Paoli, Pa., and their boys Bryce and Cassidy, James Stevens and his wife Noreen, of Atlantic Highlands, and their children Trevor and Samantha, Mark Stevens and his wife Donna, of Middletown, and their children Kelly, Amy and A.J.; and daughter Linda Stevens Olshan, of Long Branch, and her children Nicole and Robert.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 26, from 2 to 5 pm, at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 27, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Precious Blood, 72 Riverdale Ave., Monmouth Beach.

Longtime Rumson resident Myron “Bill” Berry passed away peacefully on March 10 after a long battle with cancer.
He was surrounded surrounded by his family and devoted friend, Nancy Kochanski.
Bill was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Suzanne “Sue” Lucking Berry, who he met while attending Ramsey High School. After graduation, he went on to graduate from Rochester Institute of Technology. Upon finishing college, Bill and his wife moved to Amberg, Germany during Bill’s two years of service in the United States Army.

A memorial service has been set for Saturday, Nov. 28, to honor the memory of forever Fair Havenite Benjamin “Ben” Barry Hamilton, who passed away this past Saturday at his home in the borough.
While “words of remembrance,” according to the obituary, will be shared at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Thompson Memorial Home in Red Bank, the service will span from 1 to 4 p.m.
Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect is in the process of putting together a memorial tribute and slideshow to honor Ben.

Benjamin Barry Hamilton,”Ben” 56, of Fair Haven, died at home on Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015.
Born in Jersey City to George and Joan (nee, Shook) Hamilton, he was a longtime Fair Haven resident. Ben was a retired investment professional. His professional career spanned three decades trading securities in the United States and Asia.
Ben will be remembered for his love of the Jersey Shore, his passion for surfing and his forever search for the perfect wave. He always began each day in New Jersey or Nantucket reading the local surf report or driving to check out the waves.
A Rumon-Fair Haven Regional High School Class of 1977 alumni, Ben went on to graduate from Hobart William Smith College in 1981, where he was a proud member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity and participated in Hobart Lacrosse. He then received his master’s degree in International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University.
He was a past family member of the Sea Bright Beach Club and an active member of the Clean Ocean Action.
Ben was also a founding partner of the Navesink River Paddle Excursions.
Ben was predeceased by his parents George and Joan Hamilton. He is survived by: his brother, George L. Hamilton Jr., of Ocean Grove, ; his sisters, Jeanmarie Drucker of NY, NY, and Kate Hamilton Pardee, of Nantucket, MA; his nephews and niece, Richard Drucker Jr. and Hamilton Drucker, George L. Hamilton III, and Katelynn Hamilton; his aunt, Jean Prial; close friend, Wendy Ostrov Delehanty; and many loving friends.
There will be a memorial gathering to celebrate Ben’s life on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, from 1 to 4 p.m. with “words of remembrance” at 3:30 p.m.

Losing her battle with DIPG, a progressive brain cancer, Molly Ann Richards, of Fair Haven, passed away on July 6. She was 3 years old.
Born on July 23, 2011, Molly was diagnosed with DIPG on August 23, 2013. She is survived by: her parents Ann and Tyler Richards; and her big sister Emily, of Fair Haven.
“Molly, although not here with us long, touched the hearts of many,” family said in her obituary. “She never once complained or cried during her dance. Let her life be a true example of courage, strength and fortitude until the last breath. We will LOVE you forever, Daddy and Mommy.”
A Mass of christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 8, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Rd., Fair Haven.

Longtime Rumsonite and part owner of the Rumson Beauty Salon, Ella D. Gaynor, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, May 4.
Having lived most of her life in Rumson, Ella was born in Oakhurst. here mom, Dorothy, owned the Sugar Bowl, a “soda pop shop” in Rumson, where Ella worked while at RFH, according to her obituary by Thompson Memorial Home.
In addition to her business connection to Rumson, Ella was a member of what was known as the Carton Town Gang, a townie group. She loved boating and bowling and earned an associate’s degree, her obituary said.
Ella was predeceased by: her parents, Roderick and Dorothy (Gebien) Dangler; her husband, William H. Gaynor Jr., in 2003; and her son, William H. Gaynor III, in 2015.
She is survived by: her daughter, Judy Cuje and her husband Doug of Rumson; her son, Robert W. Gaynor, of Rumson; her sister, Joan Shea, of Tinton Falls; her daughter-in-law, Rosemary Gaynor; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
There will be no services, as Ella wished.

Lifetime Rumson resident Paul J. Shea Sr. passed away on March 13 at the NJ Fireman’s Home, Boonton. He was 90.
A member of the Rumson Fire Company for 69 years, Paul was a communicant of Holy Cross Church in Rumson, and, for 25 years, was the sexton for St. Georges-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson.
He proudly served his country in World War II as a gunner in the U.S. Navy in all three theaters of war.
Paul was predeceased by: his wife Carole D. Lennen, who died in 2003; his twin brother, Thomas; and his brother Daniel.
He is survived by: his son, Paul J. Shea, Jr. and wife Elaine, of Lincroft; and his sister, Lillian Briskey, of Oceanport.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 21 at 9 a.m. at St. James RC Church, Red Bank.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown.

Former longtime Rumson resident Jeffrey David Buckley, 55, of Rutledge, PA, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 20, of complications from the flu.
Born in Teaneck, he grew up in Rumson, moved to Rye, NY, and Dorset, VT, before finally moving to Rutledge.
A 1977 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, he attended Saint Lawrence University and began his career at Kidder Peabody, moving onto Salomon Brothers and UBS as an equity block trader.
After a successful 20 year career on Wall Street, he shifted his focus to an alternative passion as a gardener at Sisters of Saint Francis of Philadelphia’s Our Lady of Angels Convent.
He was a member of Monmouth Beach Bath and Tennis Club and served as Vice Commodore of Rumson Country Club where he helped revive the youth sailing program.
Jeff was predeceased by his brother, Matthew Buckley.
He is survived by: his fiancée, Angela Kidder; his parents, David and Mary Buckley; his brother, Jonathan Buckley; sister, Katherine and husband Mark Hughes, and sister Sarah and husband Joe Richter; his children, Jeffrey David Jr. and wife Mary Pat, Grace, Peter, and Henry; and their mother Sara Henderson Buckley.
“Above all, Jeff sought an authentic life. He was charismatic, intelligent, and always curious,” his obituary from Thompson Memorial Home said. “A life-long intellect, he could recite a Wall Street stock symbol as quickly as he could identify a species of tree. He was a kind, gentle, and humble man.
“He often found solace on his sailboat on the Navesink River or hiking mountains in Vermont, but more than anything he loved spending time with his children. He had a boundless love for his family, and his contagious passion for life will be sorely missed.”
Visitation will take place from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday Jan. 23 at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank.
A funeral mass will follow at noon on Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Road, Fair Haven.
