The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) summer school schedule of academic enrichment classes for high school students in and out of district and night courses for adults has been released.
There will be two sessions. Summer Session 1 for students will run Monday through Thursday from July 10 to 20. Summer Session 2 for students will run Monday through Thursday from August 7 to 17.
Courses geared to incoming freshman students are: Technology in the High School Classroom, How to Effectively Write a 5 Paragraph Essay, Writing for Freshmen in History, and A Recipe for Success: How to Get the Most Out of High School.
Courses are also offered for students in areas of special interest, such as Broadcasting Journalism, Explore the World of Astronomy, Music Recording and Production, and Science behind the Music.
For students taking the SATs, the Princeton Review SAT Ultimate Prep Course includes fourteen afternoon sessions running from July 10 to Aug. 2. It is The Princeton Review’s most intense classroom preparation option with 25 hours of instruction plus four full-length practice SATs and access to their online student portal. A special relationship with the RFH summer program allows students to pay $899, a $200 discount from the regular price of $1,099.
Evening courses open to adults and students are Ceramics Studio/Raku Firing (July 6 to 25) and Getting to Know Your DSLR Camera (July 10 to 20).
The sun had just set. Darkness fell on Sea Bright beach Sunday night as hundreds of friends, family, loved ones of 19-year-old Maddy Massabni made their way to a spot on the beach where they quietly brought light … candlelight and memories of the light that was known to embody the recent Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) graduate’s spirit.
Maddy passed away on March 30 “following an unexpected and rare bout with septic shock,” her obituary prepared by family said, adding that Maddy was “given her angel wings.”
The soft sound of the surf seemed to cradle those who loved the Rumson girl with the gift of an infectious dimpled grin as they huddled somberly in her memory. They spoke of her with sniffles and smiles. They bowed their heads. They reminisced.
They remembered a gentle, sweet soul … a girl they knew as someone whose “beautiful smile melted the hearts of those who knew and loved her” … whose “sense of humor could always make people laugh,” her obituary said.
They remembered a twinkly-eyed teenager who “lived life to the fullest,” loved basking in the sun at that beach with her buddies, cheerleading, and managing the track team.
“The sunshine of her parent’s eyes,” as her loved ones called her in her obituary, “Madalyn’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
“With Madalyn’s passing we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated,” it added. “Although we will miss her dearly every day she will forever remain in our hearts. Throughout her life we were able to create wonderful memories and it has been an honor and a privilege to be the parents and brother of this beautiful, loving, amazing and caring young woman.”
Notes of sympathy flooded Facebook in the days following Maddy’s death.
Val’s, where she worked, posted this: “We are heartbroken at Vals. One of the kids that worked for us passed away today at 19. Suddenly tragically unbelievable. She was just starting her life. We will miss her beautiful smile and generous spirit. ‘My tears don’t flow like rivers just a mist that comes and goes and I feel a coldness start to grow deep within my soul’ … Hug your kids a little tighter tonight.”
The Fair Haven Fire Department sent out a note of condolence.
Classmates of Maddy’s mother, Dawn Tilton Massabni, an RFH graduate, hold her in their hearts, hundreds of notes expressed.
Her Uncle Harvey (Tilton), also a Rumson resident, started a gofundme page.
Maddy will be sorely missed, no doubt. Not forgotten.
In addition to her many friends, Maddy is survived by: her loving mom and dad, Dawn and George Massabni III; brother, George Massabni IV; paternal grandparent, Nan Massabni; and maternal grandparents Geraldine and Harvey Tilton; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her service will take place on Tuesday, April 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St. Red Bank, NJ. There will be a funeral service on Wednesday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 94 Tindall Rd. Middletown, NJ followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 100 Chapel Hill Rd., Red Bank.

Marc Moreau has been announced as the new Head Coach of Boys Lacrosse at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH).
“RFH is very excited about the addition of Marc Moreau and we know he will continue the incredible success our program has achieved,” RFH Athletic Director Chris Lanzalotto said. “We are confident he will have a very positive impact on our Lacrosse community and the RFH Athletic program.”
The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Tower Players are in full swing rehearsal mode, setting the stage for their production of Disney’s Tarzan.
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s (RFH’s) senior scholar athletes have officially committed their talents to colleges for the fall.
There were 13 who took part in National Signing Day on Feb. 1 at the high school.
Surrounded by proud coaches and family members, they signed either National Letters of Intent or commitments to participate in National Collegiate Athletic Association programs at the colleges of their choice next year.

They were a swimming success. They still are.
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ RFH Swim Teams have ended the season with records to do some backflips over. RFH swimmers have always dove into the season with winning streak gusto.
Most recently, they won the 2015 state championship. And this year finished the season as Group A Central Division champs.
The Lady Dawgs had successful final meet with a “great win over Neptune,” RFH Swimming said on Twitter.
And, as for the boys, they “after a tough 1st loss to CBA … beat Neptune.” Final record for the season: 10-1-1.
The RFH swimmers were state champs in 2015 and ended this season as Group A Central Division champs 2017.
So, the Retro Pic of the Day pays homage to those RFH swimmers of old … back in the late 1970s.
It is a glimpse from an old newspaper clipping of some of the proud RFH strokers after they were captured on a winning streak after a meet.
Recognize anyone? There are at least two with strong ties to the Fair Haven Fire Department. What year?
Fair Havenite Michael Frissora has soared to the Boy Scouts of America’s Eagle Scout rank.
The award of the status, the highest attainment in scouting, was conferred by BSA Troop 67 Scoutmaster Michael Maier at a Court of Honor on Jan. 8 at Tower Hill First Presbyterian Church in Red Bank.
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) is one of 433 school districts in the U.S. and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on its 7th Annual AP® District Honor Roll.
To be included in the Honor Roll, RFH needed to, since 2014, increase the number of students participating in AP while also increasing or maintaining the percentage of students earning AP exam scores of 3 or higher.
RFH boasts a commitment to providing students with an array of AP courses that pique intellectual curiosity and prepare students for post-secondary studies.
“Congratulations to all the teachers and administrators in this district who have worked so tirelessly to both expand access to AP and also to help students succeed on the AP Exams,” said Trevor Packer, the College Board’s head of AP and Instruction.
In 2016, more than 4,000 colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, or both, and/or consideration in the admission process.
Inclusion on the 7th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on a review of three years worth of AP data, from 2014 to 2016, and analysis of 37 AP exams, including world language and culture.
The Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) Ladies of the Round Table are featured as the Retro Pic of the Day.
It’s pretty likely that RFHers from this decade have never heard of such a thing. It, actually may have been indigenous to the Class of ’78.
The mission of this unique “group of good will and cheer,” as stated in the yearbook, was to “meet weekly to imbibe and to pursue leisurely interests …”
Hmmmm. They were very cool, as this editor recalls. Somehow, however, it’s highly doubtful that RFH would ever see a club like this one again.
The graphic, very well done, shows a round table in front of a fireplace with a softball, a bat, a pitcher (of something), and a pack of cigarettes.
The snow came on Saturday and some diehard traditionalists and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) alumni and friends went … to the annual New Year gathering at the Grady home.
Despite the weather, a few trudged not quite uphill, but at least from their cars down the street, in the snow, to what has become the annual gala at which all good RFHers congregate.
And though there were quite a bit fewer RFH alum partygoers this year, no enthusiasm was buried. Get the drift?

They followed different paths to embracing world languages, yet they all arrived at the same conclusion — having an “international mindset” is a huge advantage in today’s global marketplace.
