Fair Haven Firemen’s Fair time is a time for celebrating home, coming back home, connecting and holding connections strong.

This year on the fair grounds, Firefighter’s Night (formerly known as Firemen’s Night), Wednesday, was no exception. Games of chance are big at the fair. And the surest bet with a win to accompany the spin around the grounds is connection.

Yes, everyone comes to the fair to connect, to reconnect, to honor a place and people they will always call home.

For this Fair Haven kid, there was: another generation taking the volunteer reigns, a babysitter to an ornery night owl of a 4-year-old settling in her forever home; a few rowdy RFH ’78 classmates (some from Fair Haven kindergarten) who never seem to change; an RFH disciplinarian proud of grown up high school hellions; a police chief known since his early days on the force about to retire; kids of kids’ classmates to whom this different kind of mom was a bit of a mystery; old neighbors who are family; and many new friends to root in this life.
