Rumson Resident Joe Slavin Dies Suddenly at 58

The following is Joseph Slavin’s obituary from Thompson Memorial Home:

Rumson resident Joseph T. Slavin died suddenly in his office on May 10. He was 58.

A graduate of Bergen Catholic High School and Belmont Abbey College, Joe had a 35-year-long career as a sales trader and stock analyst on Wall Street beginning with E.F. Hutton, L.S. Rothchild, Fahnestock, Oppenheimer and was employed at Legends Securities at the time of his death.

West Chester, PA, Thomas Edward, 21, of San Francisco, CA, Isabelle Marie, 18, of Rumson; his ex-wife, Kathleen Kenney, of Rumson; his father, Joseph Nickolas Slavin, and stepmother Veronica Delgado Slavin, of Nova Scotia; siblings Norah Laliberte, of Moosup, CT, Anne Marie Tomaszewski, of Jupiter, FL, Kelly Broking of Warwick, NY, Robert Slavin of Boston, MA, and JoAnn Schottman of Howell, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his mother, Ann Slavin, of NY, NY.

The greatest love of Joe’s life were his three children and coaching them in Pop Warner Football and soccer. Joe was a child actor with the Dorothy Loman Agency in NYC throughout his childhood and was a SAG member throughout his life.

Joe was a master sailor and boatsman and raced sailboats from the Larchmont Sailing Club. He also taught an Options class at NYU and played basketball every Tuesday night with a crew of Rumson friends. He ran the NYC marathon in 1993 and was an expert carpenter. Joe loved entertaining friends and family and traveled the world. His infectious laugh and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.

Visitation is Tuesday, May 17, 6 to 9 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 18, at St. George’s by the River, 7 Lincoln Ave., Rumson.
