It’s an 80s pastel parade of RFH prom queens. There’s no other way to put it.
While enjoying the social media view of RFH seniors getting back to prom business tonight, it’s only nostalgically correct to get another gander back in time. That would be a time when prom fashion and hair statements were quite different — the early 1980s.
There was nothing quite like that 80s pastel, off-the-shoulder, Bo Peep/faux wedding or bridesmaid dress to jolt a person back to the millennium. The girls’ styles modeled in many a present RFH prom pic are much more chic, sleek and full of flesh peeks.
The girls look great … and very adult to old RFH spinsters. Well, let’s say they look much more adult than those RFH prom girls of the past.
In fact, adult looking and all, they sorta put the RFH prom gals of the past to a fashion police kind of shame. Then again, those 80s girls were very in with the in crowd of their era.
The hair at RFH, though, never really got as high as the highest of the 80s. Still, the girls rocked those pastels.
This Retro Pic of the Day is brought to you by RFH grad Angela Carpenter (center and swingin’). Angela tells us that it was taken before the 1982 senior prom. Where the pic was taken, we’re not entirely sure, but it’s pretty much a given that it was someone’s lawn.
Those lawn prom photos have been a standard for decades. Some things never change.
Now, about those dresses …
Besides getting all dressed up with somewhere to go, that favorite slow dance was always what the girls anticipated. One of the most popular slow dance prom songs of 1982 was Waiting for a Girl Like You by Foreigner. Though, Olivia Newton John’s Physical was number one for most of the year, and Eye of the Tiger and I Love Rock & Roll followed.
Your favorite prom dance song? Dress style?
Thanks to Angela Carpenter for sharing this fabulous prom glimpse back!
