Red Bank resident and former Sea Bright, Little Silver and Middletown resident, Joan Herter, passed away on April 2. She was 98 years old.

“Born in South Hampton, NY, Joan spent most of her 98 years in various towns of Monmouth County, including Colts Neck, Sea Bright, Little Silver, and many years in Middletown … An avid world traveler and sportswoman, Joan participated in bicycle tours across Europe, skied well into her eighties, and enjoyed tennis and other activities. She was also very active in her church, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Middletown.”

A graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, MO, Joan started her career as a reservationist for Eastern Airlines and later worked in retail and real estate. She is the daughter of Henry and Lenore Haltermann.

Joan is predeceased by: her brother, Robert Haltermann.

She is survived by: her daughter, Judith R. Herter, of NC; her son, Christian R. Herter, and daughter-in-law Beverly; and two grandchildren, Caroline Herter, of FL, and Michael Herter, of RI.
