In Memoriam: Red Bank Native, Dom’s Deli Owner, Garrett Melicia, 64

Red Bank-born Garrett D. Melicia, more recently of North Port, FL, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 11 months after suffering a heart attack. He was 64.

Garrett and his twin sister, Lauren, were born to Dominick D. and Joan I. Brownridge Melicia, on Oct. 29, 1960, in Red Bank. He was a graduate of St. Thomas More High School, Montville, CT, and Montclair State College.

“Garrett was a hard worker in many of his parents’ businesses, including partnering and operating Dom’s Cherry Street Deli for over 30 years. He was a loving father to his daughter, Monica, and devoted son to his beloved parents, whom he cared for in their last few years. He loved food, his 4-legged friends, a good flea market, and the racetrack. Garrett will be remembered for his big heart and love for his family and friends (especially his college ‘brothers’).”

Garrett was predeceased by: his parents and his beloved aunt, Barbara Colleran.

He is survived by: his daughter, Monica Melicia; his siblings, Michael Melicia, Mark Melicia (Tara), Lauren Procopio (Frank) and Lesley Mazzilli (Ed); his 13 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins (his first best friends); his goddaughters, Michelle Melicia and Hope Mazzilli; and his best friend, Barry Brown.

A service will be held on Saturday, Dec.7, from 1 to 3 p.m., at John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
