Well, the sun is shining quite bright right now; and, even though rain is in store, the beach clean-up, good eats and contest scheduled for the weekend will go on, rain or shine.
On Saturday …
The way to start the day, as Clean Ocean Action sees it, is with a resurrection of the environmental group’s Beach Sweeps from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at various locations along the shore, from Sandy Hook to Cape May.
Here’s a list of spots where you can make an environmental difference in Monmouth County for this Saturday’s Sweep. Note that there are locations in Red Bank, Rumson, Sea Bright, and a bit farther on Sandy Hook. And if you choose to venture further in Monmouth, here’s where you can participate …
And while you’re sweeping those beaches, be sure to click away on your camera. COA is running its photo contest for the Roster of the Ridiculous. Snap a classic pic of the most ridiculous trash find and get it to them. Winners get a COA prize and mention. Here’s how it goes …

A bit later, starting at noon, at the tail end of the COA Beach Sweeps and as long as the food supply lasts, the famous Fair Haven Fisk Chapel AME Church Soul Food Dinner is the place to fill the gullet and contribute to a good cause. For $18, you can eat in or take out. And there’s a bake sale, too.
