Fair Haven-raised Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) 1970 graduate, David Mernick, “a loving, generous husband and father,” passed away on Friday, May 9, “leaving his family and friends forever missing his joy of life and kindness to all who knew him.” He was 72.
It all adds up. Good teachers plus intriguing personalities equals motivated, successful students. And, no matter how you put the equation together at RFH, there was no zero involved when it came to high school math teachers.
Rumson-raised Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) graduate Franklin Joseph “F.J.” Clifford, Jr., a longtime Red Bank resident, passed away on May 3. He was 70.

Science! It was truly poetry in motion at RFH, just like the 1980s song by Thomas Dolby. And, no, no teacher blinded anyone with science at RFH, more like made the students see the subject — and more clearly.
Play ball!
That’s just what these RFH boys of the 1970s did, and with frequency. There was no major organization or uniforms involved in their free time ball games. It was just a few RFH guys, a ball, some mitts, bats, topsiders and Adidas instead of cleats, some groovin’ 70s clothes and a lot of fun.
Former longtime Fair Havenite and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) graduate and well-known area chef, Thomas “Tommy” Edward Ekleberry, passed away on April 11. He was 73.
It’s time for the girls to make a run for it at RFH. Yes, it’s track season.
It was a Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) foreign exchange student experience to remember.
A little more than a week ago, 22 Spanish exchange students from Isabel de Castilla, in Avila, Spain, said goodbye to their hosts, current RFH students and their families, after a weeklong immersive visit to the United States.
Look … up in the sky … It’s a bird. It’s a flying saucer. It’s a shot put. It’s a discus. And it’s RFH’s Tom Campbell giving it a good airborne throw on the RFH field of RFH Boys Track & Field of the late 1970s.
It’s a date! The RFH Tower Players never really had to make a date to play. But they have always needed to make a date for a production — like the fall show or spring musical.
It was a day of celebration, gratitude, art, music, love and paying it all forward.
