Rumson police on Friday hosted a visit from a special new friend. That friend was bearing an in-person gift of bridging a gap in understanding protecting and serving between law enforcement and special needs people.
The department was the 513th to spend time with Alex Mann, a young autistic man from Pennsylvania whose mission has been to visit and interact with “as many police departments as possible in order to build relationships, raise awareness and learn from each other,” a social media release said. “It was an honor so show him around and to be a part of one of his famous selfies!”
“We would like to remind our community that our department participates in the Monmouth County Special Needs Registry which was created to help police officers and other emergency service personnel to better assist residents with special needs in the event of an emergency by providing those first responders with vital information regarding a registrant’s disability, emergency contact information, a physical description and current photograph of the registrant.”
