Rumson Police Chief Scott Paterson is set to take the plunge again — the plunge into the icy winter ocean water at Seaside Heights to benefit the Special Olympics New Jersey.

The annual fundraiser officially dubbed Polar Bear Plunge at Seaside Heights, Chief Paterson has been the top fundraiser for the cause for several years in a row. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

With only a couple of days left to donate, Paterson’s donation till is now holding $31,146. The last donation recorded was an anonymous one of $5,025 only credited to “Old Dawgs.”

The total amount raised for causes associated with the plunge on the whole is $1,488,123.

“Please help me support Special Olympics New Jersey by making a donation through my page,” Paterson said on the page. “The process is fast, easy, and secure. Thanks so much for your support!”

The Rumson Police Department, in support of the chief, said recently that the competition for the chief to keep his honor as top donor “is very close right now.”

Saying that this may be Chief Paterson’s final plunge, the request is “Let’s make sure Scott goes out as the #1 donor …”

Good luck on Sunday, Chief!
