Scene Around: Fair Haven Schools’ Transition Day Trek

It’s a milestone that Fair Haven Viola L. Sickles School third graders rode into today — Transition Day.

The tradition of the era is marked by a bike trek from Sickles on Willow Street to Fair Haven Road and then up the Third Street hill to their final destination — Knollwood School, where they will spend the next four years until graduation.

And that’s just what happened today. The family and friends of the third grade Class of 2025 lined the streets all the way to Knollwood with signs championing the transition of their own special elementary grads.

Of course, the fourth graders to-be were greeted at Knollwood with fanfare and final destination informal induction into Knollwood life.

“Big cheers for our amazing third graders! We got to celebrate the beloved town tradition of Transition Day as they say goodbye to Sickles Elementary School and take the next big step to Knollwood Middle School,” schools’ staff said in a social media post. “Off to new adventures, same awesome town! Thank you to all of the students, faculty, and parents involved.”
