It’s a place where many a Rumsonite has spent many a simple, reflective or milestone moment and racked up many a vivid memory, from childhood through adulthood — the Navesink riverfront Victory Park.

And Sunday was no exception for Shrewsbury resident and Red Bank Regional High School senior Michelle Mazzucca, whose mom Jo Ann (part of the deep-rooted Rumson and Sea Bright Slocum family) grew up in Rumson and, yes, graduated from RFH.

It was Michelle’s 18th birthday on Sunday. She got more than a birthday surprise. She got a prom proposal, to boot. She met Chris Fuentes, also an RBR senior, at the park. There she was greeted by the slightly nervous young man who had a bouquet of roses and a question scrolled out on the beach: “Prom?”

Friend, Maeve Bradley, also a senior at RBR, got a snapshot of the moment. And some Rumson onlookers happened to be there to get a glimpse of it all.

Oh, and yes. She said, “Yes.”
