Stressing that they are “NOT believed to be tied to the ongoing car theft issue that is plaguing the state,” Rumson police alerted the public to a rash of home burglaries in the area.
The burglaries, they said in a social media post, have hit some towns in Monmouth County, not specifying which. The method, however, has been consistent. “The burglars have forced entry through rear doors while the home is not occupied,” they said.
In order to abate the crime, police advised that all should be aware, be persistent in keeping home doors locked and alarm systems activated “if you are going out, even for a short time.”
Suspicious activity should be reported directly to police at the dispatch desk any time of the day or night at 732-842-0500.
