It’s spring musical time at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH).

The RFH Tower Players are setting the stage to “throw the hammer” for their production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical. The musical came out of the Royal Shakespeare Company, with book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin. It revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life.
That girl, the lead, Matilda, played by RFH’s Dakota Diehl, is an intelligent little girl who is unloved by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, played by Eleanor MacNeill and Emme Patel.

As a punishment for her outspokenness at home, she is sent to the terrifying Crunchem Hall, where she is luckily assigned to the class of Miss Honey (Charlotte Gagliardi), a kindhearted teacher who recognizes and fosters her talents. But she soon catches the attention of the iron-fisted headmistress, Miss Trunchbull (Clara Lilley), whose only pleasure is punishing students who do not follow the rules.
The Tower Players are working with a talented, award-winning creative team of advisors behind the scenes: KasiAnn Sweeney, director; Anthony Pruester, assistant director, Amanda Gorfain, musical director, Donna Battaglia, choreographer, Patt Giblin, technical director, Catherine Cleary, costume and props designer, and Sue Wankel, play production coordinator.
Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is presented through a special arrangement with Music Theater International. The show will run from March 21 to 23 and 29 and 30. For tickets, please visit https://towerplayers.booktix.com/.
