A little cheer in a reprise all about simple fun to be had in foul weather lounging and an antic or a few at RFH …
Some moments are meant for just lounging … like this persistent foul, frigid weather. Yes, lounging, even if those snippets of indoor time at RFH are inside a far less cozy, yet exclusive, special high school nook like the junior, as opposed to upper crust senior, lounge.
After reminiscing a few times about the long-defunct oh so “mod” sunken-floored, wooden table-and-chaired, sofa-strewn, bean bag peppered RFH Senior Lounge (a/k/a Senior Commons), thoughts of the inferior, yet cool enough RFH Junior Lounge of the 1970s came back to mind.
So, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day honors the old RFH Junior Lounge in all its cinderblock-walled, cafeteria chair-and-table splendor. Oh, and there were vending machines, too. Woohoo! And then there were those clowns who made times there so special — or something like that.
Yes, when RFH students had free periods, or “frees.” as juniors or seniors, they could head to either lounge to hang out. Or not.
The more no-frills for the slightly lower classmen spot was, one could say, training ground for the final year hurrah of superior senior digs status.
So, here they are … a few juniors of the RFH Class of ’79, lounging on a free and far less comfortable chairs. They didn’t seem to mind — what with all those fine beverages and donuts they were apparently feasting on.
Know anyone here? What’s for lunch? What were they up to? The cafeteria was (and still is) right up the stairs. Food fight? What did you use in your best food fight? Hey, they can’t suspend us now!
