Prosecutor: Former Area Teacher Facing Additional Charges of Child Sexual Assault

A former Red Bank Charter and Long Branch schools teacher recently charged with the sexual assault of a 10-year-old student has now been charged with sexually assaulting many other elementary school children, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced on Monday.

After being charged on Feb. 14 with the 10-year-old’s sexual assault, the former teacher, Gustavo Barrientos, 53, of Tinton Falls, authorities investigated, suspecting more possible victims.

As a result of the continued joint investigation of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Long Branch Police Department, Barrientos has now been charged with sexually assaulting multiple other elementary school children.

He is currently being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution in Freehold Township pending a detention hearing.
