Native Rumsonite Mildred L. Younger passed away on Saturday, Sept. 1. She was 94.
Memorial services have been set to start on Monday, Sept. 10, with a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. A memorial tribute will be held at 6:30 that evening. Burial will be private.

Known to family and friends as Mimi, Mildred was known for her devotion to them, books, religion and her beloved feline companions.

Born and raised in Rumson by her parents, Ruth Embley and Joseph G. Lease, Mildred later moved to Freehold, Adelphia, Fair Haven and finally in Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls.
A 1941 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, then Rumson High, Mildred was a career librarian, serving as principal children’s librarian with Monmouth County Library, Freehold, from 1946-1958 and education media specialist/librarian in the Freehold Regional High School District from 1958 until her retirement in 1986. After graduating from high school, she was awarded an associate’s degree from Monmouth College, a B.S. from Simmons College, and M.S. from Columbia University.
Mildred was also a member/historian on various executive boards and organizations, among them were: MCREA, NJREA, NJEA, NJ Library Association, NJ Retired Education Association and more.
A lifetime member of St. George’s by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson, Mildred was appointed by Reverend George Willis as Parish librarian.
In that role, she was also the archivist, putting the history of St. George’s into writing.
Mildred was predeceased by: her parents; husband Roy R. Younger; cousins Ruth V. Fowler (and husband Harden C. Fowler), William F. Vital, Sr., and Gary Vital.
She was survived by: cousins Harden W. Fowler (and Lois Lyons), Jane Fowler Hartman (her sons Matthew and Erik Hartman, and granddaughter Naomi Hartman), Lorraine Vital and William F. Vital Jr.
