Former Fair Havenite and longtime Rumson School District teacher Eileen Sagurton Borden passed away, surrounded by family at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, on Thursday, Sept. 20. She was 71.
Eileen, a Red Bank resident, was born in Long Branch and raised in Fair Haven. A graduate of St. James Grammar School, Red Bank Catholic High School (’65) and Monmouth College (’69), Eileen was a teacher in the Rumson School District for 38 years.
“From a young age, she had a passion to teach and fulfilled this by instilling a drive in her students to read and write with confidence. She always had a special storybook with unique life stories for her students to relate to and remember,” her family said in her obituary.
“Besides teaching, many of her many enjoyments were cruises to the Caribbean and Bermuda,” it added. “She was an avid reader and compulsive about the daily crossword puzzles. Her ability to concoct a recipe to her liking was phenomenal.”
Eileen is predeceased by: her parents, Francis J. and Mary L. Sagurton. She is survived by: her husband, Jack Borden; her son, Joseph F. Frenchick; her sisters, Mary Ann Durr (William T.) of Middletown, Rita Herman of Rumson and Frances Seaman of Boca Raton, FL; and eight nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. at St. James RC Church, Red Bank, on Monday, Sept. 24.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the National Kidney Foundation.
