Former Rumson and Fair Haven resident Mary Jane Barron died of natural causes on Nov. 6.
A longtime member of St. George’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson, she was the first woman to have been elected warden of the church, her obituary said. In addition to being very active in the church, she was known to love spending time on the beach in Sea Bright, playing bridge and tennis and gardening.
Born in Elizabeth to Edward Lane Bouton and Katharine Church Bouton on May 30, 1922, Mary Jane graduated from The Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth in 1940. She served as a communications specialist in the US Navy during World War II.
After she married Henry B. Baron in 1947, the couple lived in Holmdel, Fair Haven and Rumson. Mary Jane was a resident of Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls at the time of her death.
She is survived by: three children; Susan Barron Hodgson, of Manassas, VA, Henry B. Barron, Jr., of Denver, NC, and Katharine Barron Hosser, of Portsmouth, NH; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by: her husband; her brother, Edward L Bouton, Jr., of Shelburne, VT; and her sister, Katharine Bouton Lloyd, of Middletown, NJ.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. George’s by-the-River Episcopal Church, Rumson, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St George’s Church.
