Rumsonite Leo Sugg Jr. passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, “after a lifetime filled with love, dedication, and quiet strength.” He was 58.
Born in Drexel Hill, PA, Leo graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in Shamokin before continuing his education at Penn State University, where he earned a degree in accounting and developed a lifelong passion for Nittany Lions football. He was also a member of the Theta Chi fraternity, where he built friendships and honed leadership skills that would serve him well throughout his life.
Leo’s accounting career began at Ernst & Young, and he soon expanded his expertise, earning an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business. He enjoyed a 30-year career in the insurance industry, most recently serving as senior vice president, North America Accident & Health and head of Internal Management Consulting at Starr Insurance Companies in New York City. “His career often took him overseas, with frequent travel to Europe and Asia, and even a period living with his family in Tokyo, Japan— an experience that greatly enriched his cultural perspective.”
Leo was predeceased by: his parents, Leo Daniel Sugg Sr. and Frances Mary Adams Sugg, and his infant brother, Christopher.
He is survived by: his wife, Gwynne; sons, Christopher and Winston; stepson, William Barrett; sisters, Patrice Cavanaugh, Fran Biddiscombe (Don), and Kate Miller (Eric); a large extended family of in-laws, aunts, uncles,12 nieces and nephews, and many adored cousins.
Visitation will be held at Thompson Memorial Home in Red Bank on Sept.13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and a Requiem Mass at Holy Cross Church in Rumson will be held on Sept. 14 at 11 a.m.. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Four Diamonds, an organization conquering childhood cancer.
