Longtime Navesink resident, Olive Pomphrey Newman, passed away peacefully on May 31. She was 97.
Olive was born in Rumson to the late Edwin Lincoln and Olive (Burgess) Pomphrey. She attended Rumson schools and was a 1943 graduate of what was then Rumson High School.
After graduation Olive became a telephone operator at NJ Bell where she made many lifelong friends.
She was a lifelong member of Rumson Presbyterian Church where she played piano at Sunday School. Olive was also a member of the Rumson Senior Club and the VFW #2179 in Port Monmouth.
She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
Olive is survived by her devoted husband of 78 years, Arthur James Newman; her daughter and son-in-law, Pamela J. and Harold Fowler, of Leonardo; and her son, Townsend Newman, of Rumson.
