In Memoriam: Lifetime Rumsonite, Former Fair Haven Crossing Guard, Harvey Tilton Jr., 89

Lifetime Rumsonite, First Aid Squad member, former Fair Haven crossing guard and 34-year Fair Haven Fire Department member, Harvey Tilton Jr., passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Jan. 22. He was 89.

“Harvey will always be remembered for his continuous smile and kind heart, always lending a hand to those in need, being an amazing friend, and always brightening our days. His memory will live in the hearts of all those who loved him.

“Born in Rumson in 1934 to Elizabeth and Harvey Tilton Sr., it is there where he grew up, attended the borough schools, helped with the family business, spent time fishing and crabbing on the river from his backyard, made lifetime friendships and shared many incredible stories with everyone with whom he came in contact.

“Harvey liked to work on cars, so those who were friends with him in his younger days knew of his exciting drag racing days and his amazing race cars. Throughout Harvey’s life he very much enjoyed softball, clamming, gun club, crabbing, bowling for the firehouse league, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

“Harvey worked for the NJ National Guard for 33 years and 15 years as a Fair Haven Crossing Guard in which he loved and brought him much happiness. He was a lifelong member of Rumson First Aid Squad, serving at one time as captain, a 34-year member of Fair Haven Fire Department and the Lions Club.”
