Arthur J. Mura of Fair Haven, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, Nov. 5. He was 92.
A drum major, bugler, and snare drummer, Arthur was a member of the Holy Name Cadets from 1937 through 1949, and the Hawthorne Caballeros in 1953. He was a percussion instructor and drum corp adjudicator for more than 20 years. In 2001, he was inducted into the New Jersey Drum Corps Hall of Fame; in 2002, he was inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame; in 2010, he was inducted into The Cadets Hall of Fame.
Raised in Garfield, Arthur graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1947. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served his country during the Korean War. Shortly after his discharge, Arthur began his career as an insurance salesman. “His exemplary work ethic and continued education rewarded him with many successes,” family said in his obituary.
He worked at New York Life for more than 30 years, followed by Mullaney Insurance. He eventually became self-employed, owning and operating Mura Insurance Services. “He was devoted to his clients and continued advising them just months before he passed,” family said.
He will be deeply missed by: his wife of 33 years, Gail; six children, Alexa and her husband James, Andrea and her husband Marco, Kenneth and his wife Pim, Michael, Mark, and Mary Lou; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonse and Albertine, and six brothers.
