Focus: RFH Staff Graduation Celebration

After spending four years teaching, disciplining and getting to know more than 200 students, Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School teachers and administrators saw them through the milestone of graduation at Monmouth University Friday night.

And, after the graduation, they gathered to celebrate and toast to the RFH Class of 2016 at Ron’s West End Pub, around the corner from Monmouth. The staff no sooner arrived when a surprise guest, who was an RFH grad himself and saw the class through the years, showed up — former Fair Haven Police Chief Darryl Breckenridge.

Focus: Backstage at RFH Graduation

It’s like the backstage flurry in the moments before a major Broadway production — the prep and anticipation that comes before a high school graduation after years of students growing, learning, stumbling and shining in the spotlight together.

It’s like it was at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School’s (RFH’s) Class of 2016 graduation on Friday evening at Monmouth University.

Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect was behind the scenes, capturing some of those backstage moments before the major milestone — graduation.

Focus: RFH Art Show

A group of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) seniors giggled, gossiped, reminisced and complimented one another’s artwork.

It was Wednesday night — the night of the RFH Art Show. It was one of the last events they would attend together as RFH students. Graduation is soon — the end of an era for the Class of 2016.

“You’re graduating soon. Are you going to cry (realizing the end of your high school years)?” asked Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect. “Yes, I think so,” one senior girl said as she blushed and started to get a bit teary eyed. The bittersweet ending sentiment was contagious. “Yeah, we are,” another chimed in with a sad grin, glancing at her friend.

And they put their arms around one another and smiled for a picture.

There were lots of moments like that at the RFH Art Show. And there were students of all grades taking in the art, realizing the end of an era as seniors and the beginning as freshman and everything in between.

The students conveyed their personalities and experiences in various art mediums. Take a look at the gallery below for a glimpse into the evening.

RFH French Students Create iBooks for Haitian Orphans

Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) students have created iBooks ® that will soon be enjoyed by children in Haiti.

The imaginative original stories — written in French, the language of Haiti — were created by the second and sixth period classes of French II teacher Christine Berg.

The iBooks ® will be stored on two iPads ® and shipped to an orphanage in Haiti. The project, coordinated through the Haitian People’s Support Project, is being funded by a grant from Foreign Language Educators of New Jersey.

The adorable and colorfully illustrated story books are entitled Le Soleil d’Haiti (Haiti’s Sun), La Journee d’Emmanuel (Emmanuel’s Day), and Nadia et le Chat (Nadia and the Cat).

The participating students in Berg’s section two/French II class are: Joseph Afflitto, Olivia Benedetto, Matthew Caldwell, Colleen Fagan, Katherine Gagliardi, Alyssa Hull, Caroline Kane, Blake Lerner, Julia Marchese, Olivia McDermott, Jeremy Nives, Courtney Parton, Armani Rodriguez, Joseph Sestito III, Madison Taylor, and Michael Taylor.

Participating section six/French II students are: Lara Baez, Timothy Bull, Ella Campbell, Olivia DeBonte, Theresa Duffney, Madyson Fanning, Jeanne Gagliano, Kenneth Gilvary, Laura Higgins, Grace Karagjozi, Natalie Livingston, Thomas Montalbano, Annabel Morris, Caroline Peitler, Chloe Reynolds, and Kelli Tuttle.

Retro RFH Baseball Home Run

It’s not only still baseball season at RFH, it’s Friday the 13th.

So, in the spirit of good luck, the Retro Pic(s) of the Day feature some  successful ball playing of the 1970s with a beloved coach whom many felt charmed the game — Hal Lorme.

Lorme passed away just over a year ago. He is still fondly remembered by many an RFH alumni and ball player.

In the top featured photo, Lorme is seen with ball player Tripp Dupree.

An RFH Home Run Derby for a Good Cause

The first annual Home Run Derby fundraiser for Change A Life Uganda, hosted by the RFH baseball teams and the Global Women Empowerment student organization, raised more than $3,000.

The first annual Home Run Derby was held at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) recently and ended up raising $3,000 for Change A Life Uganda, a charitable organization dedicated to improving the lives of Ugandan children and their families through quality education, healthcare, and income-generating programs.

RFH Grad Chef Rossi Sheds Some Sweet & Salty on ABC

Chef Rossi, the RFH girl gone self-made anti-chef/caterer, blogger and author of the recently-debuted The Raging Skillet made her own kind of special splash on network television over this past weekend in a spot on ABC news about fun kiddie snacks — and she wasn’t talking about dishing up anything healthy.

After all, she is the anti-chef. So, true to form, an unfiltered Rossi talked about some salty sweet snacks that probably had health-conscious mommies trying to feed their kids kale and broccoli disguised as chicken fingers scrambling for the remote while drooling.

It’s all about repurposing and lifting the lowbrow up a notch, as she puts it, with Rossi’s recipes. Doing things like serving peanut butter and bacon sandwiches among a platter of cascading orchids is part of her foodie purpose.

Rossi talked about those peanut butter and bacon sandwiches, a potato chip, Snickers and marshmallow casserole, chocolate-dipped pretzels,chocolate dipped chips rolled in crushed Froot Loops, pastrami reuben tacos with Michelle Charlesworth.

Yes, there was a little blackout and, yes, she did say that about the casserole. Oh, and P.S., she said as soon as they were done everyone glommed onto the snacks like kids to an Good Humor truck with free ice cream. Well, maybe not quite like that, but close.

Retro RFH Clowning Around

There’s nothing like a little clowning around at RFH.

And, even though this photo from the 1970s was apparently taken around Halloween, by virtue of the telltale clown costume and soccer ball, it screams the stuff from which a little spring fever is made.

There’s a clown on the soccer field apparently trying to steal a goal and float away attached to his helium balloon. OK.

And the look on the soccer player’s face is priceless.

So, yes, the Retro Pic of the (George) Day is dedicated to springing into a little clowning around RFH style.
