They got lit for the holidays and ended up winning. Essentially that’s what happened when Fair Haven residents competed in the borough’s second annual holiday decoration contest (2019).
It may be a bit of old news, but … The winners were no strangers to the contest, all having won last year, with just a first and second place order switch. Though the decorations are now history or nearly history, so is the winning list — borough holiday decorating contest history.
This year the top honor went to the Finnell Family at 11 Country Lane, last year’s second place, and this year’s second place was won by last year’s first-place winners, the Ruscigno Family at 39 Parker Ave. while third place remained the Rhodes Family’s of 77 Poplar Ave..
No photos came with the announcement by the borough, so two of the families posted their own. R-FH Retro has them all from last year and previous years. Call it little refresher light bulb moment.
The Ruscignos humorously asked for a hand in getting the a bit beefed up version of last year’s down. And the Finnells gave a glimpse into their back yard which many may not realize, was fully lit up, proving that the illusion of endless white lights is pretty much a reality, albeit altered state of light bliss. The Finnell display is quite eye-catching and most perusers of lights know it as an annual favorite. It showed with the voting this year. Congratulations, Finnells!

The Ruscignos collect pajamas for the children’s wing at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. While they’ve always done a grand decorating job, it began getting more and more grand with the PJ drive to light the way for donations on the porch. They did quite well with it again.
And a mainstay favorite, third place, was the Rhodes family’s Poplar Avenue display. It’s an embracing old-fashioned display filled with color and character.
Congratulations to all! Thanks for continuing to light up lives on the holidays year after year!
