Should auld acquaintance be forgot? The words of the 18th century Scottish ballad gone New Year’s Eve classic really means, “Should we forget old friends?” Of course not.
And looking back on the year, a pic like this really encapsulates the feeling of never forgetting those ties that bind from childhood through adulthood like Gorilla Glue.
This group of RFH guys lost one this year, Dave Memmott, front and center here. As with the New Year song, Auld Lang Syne, he was, ironically, born in Scotland. We’re not sure what, exactly, these forever friends are up to in this shot from the late 1970s; but, knowing them, it’s a little bit of love and mischief with a dash of mayhem. Good times, for sure. Always.
There’s some sort of toasting, and probably a bit of roasting, going on here mixed in with a little cheer, holiday or not. Hey, if the flash back fits … and it does.
A new year may be coming, but it’s never out with the old for this motley crew of childhood friends. Who’s old, anyway? No one here, ever, in spirit. The loss of one this year forced the “out” of a forever friend, really only in body and new picture books, never in mind.
So, take a look, remember your own auld acquaintance that will never be forgotten, toast them and embrace your memories with them and more to come in the New Year.
Cheers to good childhood friends!
