With the New Year on the horizon, sometimes it takes some moon glow to light the way.
The murky skies may mask the stars, but the moon tells us they’re there and always within a dreamer’s reach. And what’s not to reach for when the fuzzy picture becomes perfect with a moon waxing full standing in for the hidden star atop the evergreen.
Evergreen. It’s not just the live tree’s forever color that has a bright meaning. It’s what the murky sky masks — that evergreen riverfront scene. Always there. Always lit by the moon and stars behind the sky’s dank weather veil. Always attainable as we reach for the light, dazed into the New Year.
** Thanks to Fair Havenite Susan Culbert for the misty weather pics! She spotted the spectacular moon-topped tree on a trek down River Road before Christmas and the rest by the river. **

Focus: New Year River Daze Imprint
Sometimes it seems as if a river view is a window to heaven … on Earth.
And as the sunny late December view ushers in a new year, it offers clarity. The clarity of the beauty of home — where you can feel infinite peace emanating from a living Rumson landscape. A landscape that breathes a sigh of contentment. A landscape that beckons you at low tide into its rising tide of tranquility. The comfort of quiet solitude in its good company.
It’s always good company — the river, its inlets and marshland. It’s where all the gentlest elements meet for a nurturing hug and reflection. This time it’s the sun, the blue sky, traveled clouds mirroring in a small looking glass pool of water. The way it all looks back, casting the most golden of glows on wet sand that holds each mark of where many walks of life have been, gone and settled.
It’s a new year. Time to set out to leave more footprints, make your marks — marks of walking toward the satiety of that clear, peaceful view in your own back yard. Marks that stay. Marks emblazoned, emboldened by the sun. Marks in that sand that go out with the tide to wash up on another’s shore, leaving the grains of goodness that were once imprints.
Happy New Year.
Warmer days are ahead for the first week of 2023, albeit with a bit of dampness …
**Thanks to RFH alum Doug Borden for these spectacular river views!**

Retro RFH Guys’ Auld Acquaintance
Should auld acquaintance be forgot? The words of the 18th century Scottish ballad gone New Year’s Eve classic really means, “Should we forget old friends?” Of course not.

Cheers to the New Year and auld lang syne!
“Old long since” is what the phrase auld lang syne literally means. “Olden days” is more like it, though. Here’s to “old times.” That’s the gist.

A New Year Gathering of RFH Grads
By Elaine Van Develde
Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School (RFH) grads and friends gathered once again on Saturday for the annual Grady party.
The Gradys, Mike and Kathleen, both RFH grads from Rumson and Fair Haven, respectively, have been hosting the annual reunion-like event for many years now. In addition to the touching base with the extended Grady family itself, it’s pretty much an annual guarantee that this is the place and time to catch up with RFH alumni, their spouses and friends.
Rumson-Fair Haven Retrospect caught up with RFH friends there, some dating back to kindergarten.
Take a look at the gallery above. Just click on any photo and scroll. Know anyone?
And many thanks to the Gradys for their generosity and a fabulously festive evening!
