With the sun up and out a bit on Thursday, the temperature rise was enough of an impetus for a good daydream back to very cool beach days with an RFH guy and his college bud.
No, they’re not in Sea Bright, but who could scroll by these 70s classics on the sand? No one. The photo may have been a bit post-RFH for one Fair Haven guy, but they’re still those guys. Those guys who lived the 70s parts.
And who can resist looking at this shot and saying “Just who’s that behind those … Ray-Bans and 70s mustaches? Never mind the classic 70s flower child beach lounger. Ever had one of those beauties? How about the record album unfolded and covered with aluminum foil to enhance that tan? The chair and the album … 70s perfect together.
Behind the Ray-Bans on the right is Fair Haven-raised Mike Alberts. On the left with the fancy doo-rag on his head (protecting, no doubt, his classic 70s hairdo) is Chris Herrmann. In his initial post about the photo, Herrmann says the two were actually on Virginia Beach after rugby at ODU (Old Dominion University).
Forget about the Ray-Ban sunglasses, aviator style, of course, as was always the coolest look in the 70s. The mustaches are the captivators here! Can we revisit how thick mustaches were all the sexy rage back then? Quite opposite the hairless, clean-shaven trend in this era. Boys back then couldn’t wait to grow enough facial hair for that mustache. And the chest hair? You get the picture … literally.
But, let’s also think about the white pants on the beach. Not exactly sure what was going on with that. Certainly not full sun bathing. But, definitely still summer cool. Herrmann’s daughter even approved in the post thread: “OMG!! You are too cool, Dad!!”
Herrmann said something about burying someone up to the neck in the sand that day, but beyond that, he has no idea why the pants on the beach.
Alberts? Well, some said he looked like Nicholas Cage in this. Anyone? Personally, we think this Fair Haven boy is way cooler and definitely a more manly 70s man with that mustache.
Now, which 70s-inspired look do you wish were still in? Mustache? Hmmmmm …
