Little league is in full swing for 2021, but there are no Giants.
Back in the late 60s or early 70s, there was a whole team full. That team was led by forever Fair Havenite Bill Lang, who was laid to rest recently. He was a giant of a personality and volunteer for all things Fair Haven, so the team’s name was fitting.
And while there was no Two River Little League back then, or until 2013, for that matter, two of the playing fields were the same. This snapshot, courtesy of Bill Acker, also a coach, is the team in a pose at Sportsman’s Field.
Fair Haven Fields was non-existent in those days. It was Lovett’s Nursery. No sports fields, all woods.
The kids played ball at the then Youth Center fields on Third Street. Now they’re referred to as Community Center fields.
So, recognize any of these players? Some are still in the area. Who’s the other coach? Your favorite little league moment?
