Well, the nor’easter has long passed and the weather forecast for the weekend calls for sun and a lot of warmth in the Rumson-Fair Haven community with some tradition and events for the weekend.
Saturday starts it off with …
• The annual KDM Fun Run & Walk at 11 a.m. in Sea Bright. Start/finish is at the parking lot near the Sea Bright Borough Hall on Ocean Avenue.
“Beautiful weather for race day,” said Gregg Kennedy, organizer of the event on Facebook. “Plenty of time to sign up or register on race day.”
The KDM Foundation was formed to honor the memory of RFH graduate Keith McHeffey, who was tragically killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City.
The run has been held in Sea Bright each year sine the foundation’s formation in 2002. All proceeds benefit youth activities in the towns of Rumson, Fair Haven, where McHeffey, an athlete known to befriend all, was raised, and Sea Bright, where he spent a lot of time, as most RFHers do.
And on Sunday …
• The Rumson St. Patrick’s Day Parade kicks off its sixth year, boasting a bigger and better parade line-up each year.
The first parade took place in 2013 and brought out more than 4,000 spectators, 720 marchers and seven bagpipe bands. It has reportedly tripled in size.
• And while the parade is en route, the good people at the Fisk Chapel in Fair Haven will be having their Fish or Sparerib Dinner starting at noon and running until, of course, food runs out. Get over there quick, because the homemade dinners are to die for and the company is great.
The Fisk Chapel is at 38 Fisk St. in Fair Haven and, yes, they will pack up a platter for you to take home. Cost is $15 and includes fish or spareribs with sides, rolls and a pound cake dessert.
If we’ve left anything out, let us know.
In the meantime, get ready for a great weekend and I’ll see you around the towns!
