The cause of a pedestrian being hit by a motor vehicle on Tuesday is under investigation as he remains in critical condition, Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 4:51 a.m., Howell police responded to the intersection of Route 9 and Strickland Road on a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian crash.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a male driver was traveling southbound in the right lane of Route 9 when he struck a 77-year-old male pedestrian from Howell.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where he is suffering from multiple injuries and in critical condition.
The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with law enforcement officers. No charges or summonses have been issued as of yet in connection with the incident.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Howell Township Police Department remains active.
